Don't be a Dorner. While law enforcement grieves over the loss of life in the Dorner case, the answer is not to replicate Dorner. We need to bring about real change in our Police Departments so that officers are free to speak up about corruption and crimes they have witnessed. In my case the City of San Bernardino refused to look into a Police Officer rapist who victimized over 100 women. The City of San Bernardino refused to police their own narcotic detectives who stole cash from drug dealers. Even after being shot twice by police officers in "accidents" I was fired for being a liability because I knew that the City was aware of the rapes and did nothing. The Dorner case is extreme, but it does serve to call for change. There needs to be some kind of process that protects police whistle-blowers (there is one for Federal waste, but nothing under California law). One of the cops that shot me, Ernie Lemos, was rewarded with promotions and is now the Asst. Chief of the San Bernardino Police. We must stop the criminal cops and protect the cops that speak out, until we do Law Enforcement will never gain the trust of the community completely. I will bet that there hasn't been a firing of a Police Officer in recent memory where the City or agency recanted and admitted that they were wrong. It is time for oversight, it is time for the police agencies to be accountable to the citizens they serve, after all the whistle-blower cops are citizens too.
